Aliso Viejo's Commons Saved Dinner for Last

The Commons at Aliso Viejo Town Center took about 21 months to fill in. Its first tenant opened on Dec. 14, 2024, and the restaurant that completes it opened on Sept. 2, 2026. The openings came in an order that a shopping trip and a night out would both recognize. Errands and grocery shopping came first, then quick tea and noodles, then bowling and climbing, and a chef-driven dinner came last. That is why the block only recently started working as an evening plan.

On paper the property is one long run of street numbers off Aliso Creek Road and Route 73. ValueRock, the owner, lists it at 26501 to 26519 Aliso Creek Road, with 183,722 square feet of retail and 1,319 parking spaces. The redevelopment work began in 2023. The city approved the development proposal in July 2022. Nearly every odd number in that range now belongs to a business that opened within the last two years.

Address on Aliso Creek Road Tenant Opened
26503 Lucky Strike Dec. 6, 2025
26505 Sender One Climbing Feb. 1, 2026
26507 Omomo Tea Shoppe Sept. 12, 2025
26509 Philz Coffee March 5, 2025
26511 Vox Kitchen Sept. 2, 2026
26513 Marugame Udon March 28, 2025
26515 CoCo Ichibanya November 2025
26517 Daiso March 15, 2025

The addresses run in a neat line, but the dates jump around. Read the table top to bottom and the dates make no sense. Sort it by the date column and the order in which the center was built becomes clear.

Spring 2025 Was About Errands

The Tesla center opened first, on Dec. 14, 2024, in the space that used to be a Michaels. Four openings followed within about six weeks the next spring. Philz Coffee held its grand opening March 5, 2025, at 26509. Daiso opened on March 15 at 26517, selling Japanese housewares, beauty products, stationery and snacks. Marugame Udon opened March 28 at 26513, serving udon and tempura. 99 Ranch Market had a soft opening on Thursday, April 17, and a grand opening two days later. It is an Asian supermarket with a bakery and café and counters for meat and seafood. Inside 99 Ranch, at 26519 Aliso Creek Road, #102, L'uxweet now takes online orders for Taiwanese breakfast and handmade desserts all day. Its official pages don't say when the Aliso Viejo location opened.

That first wave covered daytime needs: coffee, groceries, household goods and a quick bowl of noodles. It gave the center steady traffic before there was much reason to stay past dinner. The school paper's September 2026 roundup notes that this first group opened mostly on the opposite side of the complex from where the later tenants went.

Fall 2025 Gave the Evening Its Middle

The second phase filled the empty spaces between the Tesla center and Philz Coffee. Omomo Tea Shoppe opened at 26507 on Sept. 12, 2025, serving fresh-brewed tea, matcha and fruit drinks. CoCo Ichibanya, the Japanese curry chain, opened at 26515 that November.

Then came the tenants that give people a reason to stay. Lucky Strike opened at 26503 on Dec. 6, 2025, with 35 bowling lanes, an arcade and a restaurant and bar. Sender One Climbing opened next door at 26505 on Feb. 1, 2026. It offers bouldering, rope climbing, yoga and fitness classes, and Sender City, a climbing area for kids. In the school paper's words, these two added activities to "a previously desolate area."

By early 2026, then, the block had a full evening's worth of activities. It had something to do at 7 p.m. and somewhere to get a drink at 9 p.m. Bowling at Lucky Strike came with that venue's own food and bar, and the Commons had quick-service curry, udon and a tea counter. Until Sept. 2, 2026, though, it had no chef-driven restaurant for a sit-down dinner.

Vox Kitchen Fills the Last Gap

Vox Kitchen opened at 26511 Aliso Creek Road on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026. The Orange County Register reported the opening that week. It is the third Orange County location for a restaurant founded in 2017 by Viet Nguyen, a James Beard semifinalist. It operates under Kei Concepts, the group behind Nep Cafe, Kei Coffeehouse, ROL Hand Bar and QUA Contemporary Chinese Cuisine. The second Vox Kitchen opened at South Coast Plaza.

The menu is modern Chifa, the Chinese-Peruvian cooking that grew out of the Chinese immigrant community in Peru. The Aliso Viejo space covers 3,298 square feet and seats about 80. The Register lists filet mignon lomo saltado, filet garlic noodles, garlic chicken wings, Chifa-style fried rice and congee in beef rib and crab versions. It has called that congee some of the best in Orange County.

Vox sits at 26511, in the middle of the address block. Lucky Strike, Sender One, Omomo and Philz have lower numbers, and Marugame, CoCo Ichibanya, Daiso and 99 Ranch have higher ones. In practice, an evening that starts with dinner now has bowling, climbing and boba within a few street numbers. The school paper's roundup tells the same story from the staffing side. A Vox employee told the paper the restaurant "had to hire all of their employees at once," which fits a business opening as one complete piece rather than easing in.

Our summer post on Grand Park, Wood Canyon and a half-finished dining row covered this block while it was still filling in. With Vox open, the evening tenants that were missing then are in place.

An October Evening on One Address Block

Here is one way an evening at the Commons works now, using only businesses that are confirmed open:

  1. Order at Vox Kitchen for an early dinner, ideally the congee or the lomo saltado.
  2. Walk a few addresses down to Lucky Strike for bowling, or to Sender One if a climbing session suits the group better.
  3. Finish at Omomo for a matcha or fruit tea.
  4. Leave time for 99 Ranch or Daiso on the way out if the week's shopping still needs doing.

Each stop's hours are on its own site. Marugame Udon and Omomo both post daily hours, and Sender One takes bookings and memberships online.

The city's October calendar covers the daytime and early-evening hours that the Commons doesn't. The City of Aliso Viejo is hosting a free Movie Night showing Monsters, Inc. at Aliso Viejo Ranch on Friday, Oct. 16. Games, crafts and food trucks come first, and the movie starts at sunset. The next day, Saturday, Oct. 17, the Aliso Viejo Community Association holds its Fall Harvest Festival at Grand Park, 6101 City Lights Drive. It includes a children's costume parade and community booths, and organizers are asking for non-perishable food or baby supplies as donations. AVCA's event page lists two different start times, so confirm with the association before you go. Earlier in the month, the city's Pet Fair & Vet Clinic comes to Aliso Viejo Ranch, 100 Park Ave., on Oct. 3, with adoption groups, a free costume contest and low-cost vaccinations.

That makes the third weekend of October a simple plan. Friday night is a movie at the Ranch, Saturday afternoon is the Harvest Festival, and Saturday night is dinner at 26511 Aliso Creek Road.

A completed retail center also changes what nearby homes have within reach, and that is something our team tracks across south Orange County.
